This page has info on it that may be of interest to UConn fans that use a PDA (Palm, Handspring, etc).

UConn News on your PDA

Palm VxThe News page on this site is also available in a bare bones format for use as an AvantGo channel. This page differs from the regular News page in that it only has today's links on it and it may not get updated quite as frequently as the normal page (but I'll try hard to keep it as up-to-date as possible). Click on the PDA graphic to the right to add my News page as an a channel in your AvantGo account.

Here's how the update schedule for the AvantGo page has been working out. I'll post the day's links either first thing in the morning (which hasn't been happening too often lately) or at lunch time. At some point I'll do a "pencils down" and copy the links onto the AvantGo page. Then I will move the AvantGo logo to the top of the News page to signal that I've updated the AvantGo page. After that point if I add more links to the News page I try to add them to the AvantGo page at the same time. If I have the time I will also go through all of the links on the AvantGo page and change those for which there is a Printer-Friendly version available (Hartford Courant, The Day, Meriden News-Times, Boston Globe, NY Times). Some days I just can't do an update until the end of the day (5:00 PM) so I usually don't update the AvantGo page on those days.

People with web-enabled PDAs can also use the bare bones page directly when surfing this web site to get an uncluttered version of the News page.

Note that the off-site pages that are linked to from this page may be hard to read on your Palm since the are most likely not optimized for PDA use (except for the Printer-Friendly pages), but my experience has shown that it's usually not too bad.

UConn Basketball Schedules

I have the UConn Men's 2000-20001 Basketball Schedule available in a variety of formats for PDA users.

Contents of these two files are identical except that the ReadMe file is formatted differently for each platform. Both of these files are compressed so Mac users will need StuffIt Expander and PC users will need an UnZip utility.

Both downloads contain:

  1. A database file for use with the JFile database app for the Palm OS.

  2. CSV (comma-separated values) file that can be imported into a different Palm DB application (Fishy from The Boneyard has already done just that to create a Mobile DB database file).

  3. A Palm Desktop Datebook import file containing each game as a datebook event (you'll need to set your own alarms for each event, however). UPDATE: This file only works for Macintosh users. I'm investigating the possibility of providing this file in the proper format for PC users.

  4. A FileMaker Pro database that I used to create all of the above (probably not of any use for anyone but I figured I'd include it anyway).

I plan on offering the women's schedule in an identical format after CPTV releases their broadcast schedule for the women's games.

If you have any problems or suggestions please let me know.
